WHY YOU SHOULD NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY NATURAL STONES IN YOUR HOMES

Many people are drawn to the warmth and beauty of natural stones like marble and granite. They fear it may be difficult to maintain and shy away from using these timeless stones in their homes. Let’s address frequently asked questions to help eliminate the negative stigma of natural stone!

These questions are the tip of the iceberg to give you an idea of what to be aware of when shopping for these stones. If you should have any questions, we are here to help our community, after all in the end we all benefit.

There is no need to feel hesitant – you CAN have and love natural stones in your home.

People always ask how often natural stones need to be sealed. Don’t be overly concerned about the small amount of maintenance this product requires; the natural beauty, uniqueness and quantity of colors and patterns available truly trumps any misgivings you may have. The reason they require some attention is to protect the natural stone from our everyday lives like children spilling Kool-aid on your countertop or spaghetti sauce splattering on your backsplash while cooking. These things happen, so don’t worry! Prior to enjoying your beautiful stone, simply use a clean white cloth as you would do when cleaning it and spread sealer on the surface. To err on the side of caution, repeat this treatment every 6 months guaranteeing gorgeous protected stone surfaces.  Your stone supplier can provide you with a sealer or recommendations.

There are few design elements that spark a heated debate and divide homeowners as much as granite or quartz. There are pros and cons to both types of stone. For countertops, some prefer natural stone based on the elaborate and exotic veins running through them. Others prefer quartz which is manmade and does not require maintenance.  In our expert opinion both options are fabulous and you really can’t go wrong with either!

To put it simply, “it depends.” Granite and marble are generally grouped into different price levels. Fabricators will use different approaches on how they price their granite or marble.  The best way to compare costs is to have your stone supplier price your project based on provided measurements. You will want to ask if certain things are included such as:

  • Template and installation?
  • Finishing edge options?
  • Faucet hole and undermount sink cutouts?
